Poste vacant à l’Université du Cap (Afrique du Sud)

samedi 11 février 2012

Poste de lecturer/senior lecturer/associate professor in Demography Centre for Actuarial Science (CARe) Faculty of Commerce

Date limite de candidature : 29 février 2012

Extrait de la présentation :

"We invite applications for this tenure-track post as part of a dynamic and growing team of demographers for appointment as soon as possible.

This is a key position within one of the premier demographic teaching and research programmes in Africa. The programme is interdisciplinary, and combines research and teaching from a number of departments across the University. The Centre has built up internationally-recognised expertise in the modelling of the demographic dynamics of HIV/AIDS, as well as in the estimation of demographic parameters from limited or defective data.

The successful applicant will be keen to contribute to all aspects of the programme’s work, including teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervision of Master’s and, where appropriately qualified to do so, Doctoral theses, and the conduct of research at the highest level. In particular, the applicant must have a keen interest in both teaching and developing techniques of demographic estimation appropriate to developing countries from deficient data.

At a lecturer level, candidates will either have recently obtained, or be close to obtaining, a PhD in demography. A PhD with a strongly quantitative orientation is essential for appointment as a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor, as is a research track record in the field of demographic estimation in developing countries commensurate with the rank being applied for. Experience in similar positions, regionally or internationally, would be advantageous.

The level of the post will be determined according to the skills, experience and qualifications of the successful applicant."
